Vocals in electronic music has been a recurring and polarizing issue. And rightly so, because there is a fine fine line between emotive or uplifting and cheesy. It is really easy to mess things up. I believe that meaningful vocals, when lightly sprinkled in, can add a lot of value to a production. Ultimately, however, the electronic melodies, riff and bass need to carry the track. ‘Language’ is an excellent example of vocals done right, as mid track things come a screeching halt, and we are treated to this sublime verse:
Give me releaseLet the waves of time and space surround meYeahCause I need room to breatheLet me float back to the place you found meI’ll be ok
*goosebumps*
